How cookies are used here

Cookies Policy

Find out how cookies may be used on Info Theater, what they do, and how to manage preferences for analytics, advertising, and site features.

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. It lets the site recognise your browser on the next request. This page explains which cookies Info Theater uses and how to control them.

Strictly necessary

These make the site function. Our session cookie keeps your place while you fill in a comment or contact form and carries the security token that protects those forms from cross-site request forgery. The site cannot work properly without them, so they are not optional.

Preferences

If you change a display preference, a cookie may remember it so you do not have to set it again on every visit.

Analytics

Analytics cookies tell us how many people read an article, how they arrived and whether they found what they came for. We look at this in aggregate to decide what to write next. If Google Analytics is active on this site, it sets its own cookies under its own policy.

Advertising

If advertising is running on this site, ad networks may set cookies to measure performance, cap how often you see the same ad, and in some cases personalise what is shown. These cookies are set by the ad network, not by us.

Third parties that may set cookies

  • Google Analytics — audience measurement
  • Google AdSense or another ad network — advertising delivery and measurement
  • Embedded media — a YouTube video or a social post embedded in an article may set cookies when it loads

Managing cookies

Every major browser lets you see which cookies are stored, delete them, and block them — either generally or per site. The relevant settings live under Privacy in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. You can also browse in a private or incognito window, which discards cookies when you close it.

Blocking all cookies will stop comment and contact forms from working on this site, because the security token that protects them cannot be stored.

Opting out of personalised advertising

Personalised advertising can be turned off through your Google ad settings, or through industry opt-out tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance's consumer choice page and the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. Turning it off does not remove advertising; it makes it less relevant.
